such is life

Last Saturday was a day of mixed emotions
It was my birthday!
But,
my sweet Mom was, and still is, in the hospital.
(It's for this reason, and numerous computer/blogger??glitches...grrr,
that I have been unable to post lately.)
Yesterday she told me she was. ready. to. die.
And,
it was my first birthday without my Dad.
My parents, affectionately known as
"G & G"
(Grammie and Grandad)
used to stop by with coffee
from Dunkin Donuts (my favorite :))
every Saturday morning.

(Occasionally my husband joined us,
but usually he was running
the Youth Basketball League here in town. (His bliss!)

Besides coffee they'd bring
chocolate munchkins for the great grandkids,
muffins for themselves,
and a lemon-filled donut for me!

It was our routine.

familiar

still in my pajamas

SIMPLE

easy
&
FAMILY comfortable

We'd catch up on the previous week's activities
and delight in watching my sweet grandkids

DANCE

and sing

and run

and live

with sweet abandon.

It was always the same.
{Gosh, I haven't had a lemon-filled donut in six months!}

Funny, isn't it, how it's the

Predictable
TAKE FOR GRANTED
MOMENTS
that mean so much when they're gone.
{SIGH}
I did, however, receive many
gifts and
good wishes
from family
and friends
to bring
sprinklings of joy
to my day.

Don't take life for granted...It is a gift from God...
thank Him for every breath...
P.S. I told the kids in my class that I was celebrating the
24th anniversary of my 29th birthday...
It kinda blew their minds!!!
Remember, they're only 7...
Kinda blows my mind too!
:)

  1. Susan, my thoughts are certainly with you. Yes, very mixed emotions. I wish you a very blessed birthday and hope that this year will be full of lemon donuts for you. If not literally, then figuratively. My math is horrible. I can't figure out the birthday age. Are you 30?

  2. Dearest Susan,

Oh my dear, I am so sorry to hear that you have been experiencing this inevitable part of life. I was living in Mass. when my beloved parents BOTH came down with terminal cancer. I had to leave my job in Mass. to get back to California. My husband then followed me after he completed his first semester at Gordon Conwell Seminary. My parents BOTH died that summer, two weeks apart, and it changed my life. 22 years later, I still miss them and once and a while I weep. I so wish I could speak to them. However, we all have fond memories and now, we are teachers and can make memories for our little charges. I wish you peace and OH, how lovely your blog is. Thank you for coming, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Let the glittering begin!!!

    Blessings, Anita

  7. Hello! I'm new to your blog, but this post was really touching. Thank you for sharing your story. My thoughts are with you and I hope new, happy memories are just around the corner for you. You are so right about the "take for granted" moments in life. It's not always easy, but it's worth reminding yourself from time to time, just how special even the little things are. Nancy x

  8. Dear, dear Susan,

How is your mother doing? How are you holding up? I find a peaceful tone here at your blog, hoping that your heart is at peace as well. Thank you for coming to my theatre piece and expressing your wonderful encouragement. I am not published YET....my goal is to publish at least one book. Why so modest? Because it really isn't easy to do, so I have to be realistic, but if I can at least get one work accomplished, I will be happy to have achieved that. I do make my own books however, but to distribute handmade work would be a nightmare. I would love to have my own publishing company, but what a headache that would be being a full-time teacher!!!

Thanks so much. Have a glorious day. Anita
